Mission
The American Association of South Asian
Neurosurgeons (AASAN) is an
organization 1. To serve as a venue for neurosurgeons of South Asian descent to meet and get to know each other, thus encouraging professional and personal interactions 2. The AASAN provides assistance to South Asian decent neurosurgeons, both domestically and globally in their education and development. AASAN is also organized to facilitate, promote, and sponsor scientific medical research and training in the area of neurosurgery between The United States and South Asia 3. To serve as a contact point for neurosurgical organizations from South Asia with their South Asian counterparts in the USA 4. To facilitate and sponsor scientific and neurosurgical interactions between the US and South Asia SCOPE: Membership in AASAN is open to neurosurgeons from South Asia and includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The core purpose is to socially unite its South Asian neurosurgical membership as a networking and professional society. The organization wishes to enhance professional exchange between South Asian neurosurgeons in the US and those in their native countries. This should allow the dissemination of intellectual and technical skills across geographic borders for the betterment of our patients. MEETINGS: We currently have two meetings a year - one during the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) (www.aans.org) meeting and the other during the Congress of Neurological Surgeons – CNS (www.cns.org) meeting. The meetings are typically held on a Monday night at 6:00 PM. The meeting time and location are emailed to the membership, posted on the web site (www.aasan.us) and also listed in the program book of the particular annual meeting. Following the meeting, we generally have a social gathering and dinner at a local restaurant. All neurosurgeons of South Asian descent and others with an interest in South Asia are most welcome to attend.
